Japan granted citizenship to an Afghanian baby

According to Japanese law, refugee children are granted citizenship when they were born in Japan or their parents immigrated from a place whose legal status is unknown.

According to the Kyodo news agency, after the return of the Taliban group to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, Japan only issued immigration visas to 9 Afghanians, but over time this number increased and reached 237 people in 2023.
